Horizontal steel tanks

This type of the capacitive equipment is applied to reception, storage and delivery of the most various liquids. More often, it is used for light oil products. Horizontal tanks  are widely used in many industries now. This type of horizontal tanks is designed for internally excessive pressure of more than 70 kPag. Production of tanks is carried out according to state and international standards.

We offer both one-wall tank and double-walled tanks with conic, flat or cylindrical bottoms. The choice of bottom depends on pressure in a tank and its volume. Our enterprise offers customers multichamber tanks with internal space being divided by double-walled partitions. Such vessels are intended for storage of several types of liquids and are used mainly at gas stations.

The tank consists of a support, a case part and hinged processing equipment. As a rule, the case is made from several rings which diameter should not exceed 3,25 m. Connection of feedwells is carried out by means of welding end-to-end or with an overlap. Calculation of thickness of face and side walls is carried out taking into account their durability and stability.

As long-term practice shows, the volume of the tank should be counted, proceeding from pressure which it will have to maintain. For example, with the flat bottom it is rational to choose tank of 3,5 and 10 m³ if the supposed pressure does not exceed 40 kPag. It is worth remembering that storage of oil products under pressure exceeding 70 kPag does not practice at all.

Directly case, necessary quantity of stiffening rings, support and basic diaphragms, the bottoms, the hatch manhole with a diameter of 800 mm and technological lines (receiving and delivery of a product, the respiratory line, drainage branch pipe) are included in the package of usual ground-type tank. Stiffening rings are necessary to raise strength characteristics of a construction for its safe transportation and installation. Besides, it provides increasing of resilience to the external pressure created by wind and snow.

Installation of the ground-type tank is carried out on 2 or more supports depending on the volume of a horizontal vessel. Their corner of coverage can vary in limits of 60-120º. The case of a vessel is provided by presence of the nozzles intended for a receiving, aeration and loading, as well as a special neck with the hatch manhole. It allows to examine, clean and repair the tank. Each tank of this kind has the ladder located inside and outside, as well as grounding.

Underground-type tanks are usually used for stationary storage of combustible liquids and other oil products, but it can be used for water storage as well (fire tanks).

Its main advantages over ground-type tanks consist in economy of space. Installation of underground tank is conducted on the prepared ground or a reinforced concrete plate. Special attention is paid to control of liquids stored. The control is carried out by means of use of various sensors: temperature, tightness, hermiticity, discharge and level control sensors.

The interwall space is filled with either nitrogen, or antifreeze or any other liquid that prevent any corrosion on tank walls.

Cost of steel horizontal tank: factors and features

First, it is very important where a tank will be established. Depending on weather conditions and average daily temperatures in production of horizontal tanks for oil products various steel types can be used. If operation in areas where temperature can fall below -40 ºС, then rather expensive alloyed steel is used that, certainly, will affect tank price as supposed.

Secondly, it is worth remembering that underground horizontal tanks are always more expensive than ground ones. Their production is accompanied by use of bigger amount of metal, and, respectively, costs of its processing.

Thirdly, it is thickness of walls. There are minimum admissible sizes which are made by 4 and 5 mm for ground and underground tanks respectively. But the customer can ask to increase these sizes. It will give durability to tank and increase operation lifetime considerably.

Fourthly, the customer must understand that applying protective covering on walls of the tank is rather labor-consuming. Price of the tank may differ and depends on the price of the materials used.

The last factor of the price of the steel horizontal tank is the product supposed to be stored. Different substances have different indicators of viscosity that causes use of heat-insulating materials and special heating devices. These expenses make a reservation with the customer at the designing stage.

Depending on environment, the stored product and the customer's wishes a horizontal tank can be additionally equipped with an internal ladder, sensors and signaling devices of level, platforms for service, heaters and other processing equipment.
